to as one of the highlights of The Christian World. Recognized as
a World Heritage site by UNESCO, the cathedral is still an
important center for Christian pilgrims today. Famous for its
stained-glass windows and wonderful colors dating back to the l2th
and l3th centuries known as the "blue of Chartres".
No less impressive are the meandering ancient streets of
Chartes, giving one a true feeling of stepping back in time. Down
by the river, one can see old wash houses. The restaurants by the
river are particularly good.
